Mel Scale
A perceptually motivated frequency scale that allocates greater resolution to lower frequencies and compresses spacing at higher frequencies.
Speech Processing Context
The Mel scale is a perceptual frequency mapping used to place analysis bands more densely at lower frequencies and more coarsely at higher frequencies. Mel filter banks are widely used in MFCC and log-Mel representations for speech models.
Representation Boundary
The Mel scale is an approximation rather than a complete model of human hearing. Different Mel formulas, filter definitions, and normalization conventions can produce slightly different feature values.
