Short-Time Fourier Transform

Turkish equivalent: Kısa zamanlı Fourier dönüşümüDomain: Signal Processing

A time-frequency analysis method that applies the Fourier transform to successive overlapping windowed frames of a signal.

Signal Processing Context

The Short-Time Fourier Transform analyzes a signal in overlapping finite windows, producing a time-frequency representation. Frame length, hop size, FFT size, and window function determine the time-frequency resolution trade-off used by many speech and audio front ends.

Measurement Boundary

An STFT uses the same analysis-window design across the signal unless the pipeline changes it explicitly. It therefore does not provide arbitrary simultaneous time and frequency resolution, and window choice affects leakage and amplitude estimates.
