CAN Bus
CAN Bus — A robust multi-master serial communication bus widely used in automotive and embedded systems for priority-based frame transmission.
Embedded-System Context
CAN is a multi-master serial bus designed for robust communication in electrically noisy systems. Dominant and recessive bits allow identifier-based arbitration without destroying the winning frame, so identifier priority and total bus load are central to worst-case latency analysis.
Protocol Boundary
A CAN identifier is not necessarily a device address. Higher-level protocols frequently use the identifier to represent message meaning, priority, or function rather than one physical endpoint.
