Historical Development
Project management coordinates scope, time, cost, quality and risk. Traditional planning remains useful for predictable deliverables and dependencies that can be established in advance.
PMI and PMP
The published agenda addressed the Project Management Institute and PMP certification. PMP certification evaluates project management knowledge and professional experience.
PMBOK 6 and PMBOK 7
PMBOK 6 is organized around process groups and knowledge areas. PMBOK 7 emphasizes principles and performance domains, allowing practices to be tailored to different project contexts. The transition does not mean that all processes are obsolete.
Application to Software Engineering
Requirements change, technical debt, testing, operational risk and cross-team dependencies all affect software delivery. Predictive, adaptive and hybrid project management approaches should be evaluated against actual delivery and quality requirements.
