Distributed Tracing
The reconstruction of a request's path across multiple services by correlating spans that share trace context.
Observability Context
Distributed tracing reconstructs the path of a logical request across services by correlating spans that share trace context. A trace ID identifies the end-to-end operation, while span IDs and propagated parent-child relationships reveal fan-out, retries, dependency latency, and error propagation.
Cost Boundary
Tracing does not require retaining unlimited detail for every request. Sampling, attribute cardinality, storage, privacy, and collector capacity are part of production design.
