Wait Event
An Oracle instrumentation category describing what a database session is waiting for when it is not actively consuming CPU.
Oracle Runtime Context
Oracle wait events classify what a session is waiting for when it is not actively consuming CPU. I/O, locking, commit, network, concurrency, and other waits help locate where elapsed time accumulates when analyzed with duration, frequency, workload phase, and session context.
Interpretation Boundary
Not every wait indicates a problem. Idle waits and natural synchronization points are expected, and a large wait count can be harmless when each event is extremely short.
