The number of discrete signal samples acquired or represented per second, typically expressed in hertz.
Signal Processing Context
Sample rate is the number of discrete samples acquired or represented per second. A 16 kHz rate produces 16,000 samples each second and, for an ideally band-limited signal, can represent frequency content below 8 kHz without aliasing.
Measurement Boundary
A higher sample rate does not automatically yield better perceptual quality or higher ASR accuracy. Source bandwidth, anti-alias filtering, model training conditions, and downstream feature extraction remain relevant.
