Object-Relational Mapping

Turkish equivalent: Nesne-ilişkisel eşlemeDomain: Software Engineering

The mapping of object-oriented domain structures to relational database tables, columns, identities, and associations through a persistence layer.

Software Engineering Context

Object-Relational Mapping maps application objects and relationships onto relational tables and may provide identity management, lazy loading, unit-of-work behavior, and dirty checking. These conveniences do not remove SQL cost; query shape and fetch strategy still have to be engineered deliberately.

Conceptual Boundary

An ORM does not turn a relational database into an object store. Transaction isolation, indexes, locking, constraints, and execution plans remain part of the system's behavior.
