A composable query-predicate abstraction commonly used with Spring Data JPA to build reusable dynamic criteria for entity queries.
Software Engineering Context
JPA Specification composes query predicates dynamically so optional filters can remain testable and repository queries do not collapse into a single monolithic method. It can improve query construction structure while still requiring inspection of the generated SQL and execution plan.
Design Boundary
Using a Specification does not guarantee efficient SQL. Join shape, fetch strategy, predicate selectivity, indexes, and cardinality estimation still determine database cost.
