Generational GC
Generational GC — A garbage-collection strategy that separates objects by age so short-lived allocations can be collected more frequently and efficiently.
JVM Runtime Context
Generational garbage collection exploits the common pattern that many objects die young. Young regions are collected more frequently, while surviving objects can be promoted to an older generation; remembered sets or card tables track references that cross generation boundaries.
Workload Boundary
A generational design is not optimal for every heap. Large long-lived object graphs, unusual allocation patterns, or collector-specific barriers can change the expected benefit.
