G1 GC
G1 GC — A region-based HotSpot garbage collector designed to balance throughput with predictable pause goals across medium and large heaps.
JVM Runtime Context
G1 divides the heap into regions and balances concurrent work with stop-the-world evacuation phases, targeting server workloads that need a compromise between throughput and pause predictability. Humongous objects, remembered sets, evacuation pressure, live-set size, and allocation bursts should be examined with GC logs and JFR.
Pause Boundary
G1's pause-time target is a scheduling goal rather than a hard real-time guarantee. Workload changes can make a pause exceed the target, and lower pause goals can trade against throughput or CPU headroom.
