Token Bucket
A rate-control algorithm in which tokens accumulate at a configured rate and requests consume tokens, allowing bounded bursts while enforcing a long-term average.
Resilience Context
A token bucket accumulates tokens at a configured refill rate and spends them when requests are admitted. Bucket capacity controls the amount of short-term burst that can pass, while refill rate sets the long-run average.
Distributed Boundary
A distributed global limiter adds consistency, clock, and atomicity concerns that do not exist in a single-process counter. Token bucket provides smoother burst behavior than a fixed window but does not remove the cost of maintaining shared state.
