Overlapped Speech
An interval in which two or more speakers are active simultaneously, complicating diarization, transcription, and speaker attribution.
Speech Processing Context
Overlapped speech contains simultaneous activity from more than one speaker and violates the single-speaker assumption used by many diarization pipelines. Overlap detection, multi-label segmentation, or source-separation stages can reduce the resulting diarization and transcription errors.
Modeling Boundary
Stereo recording does not automatically solve overlap. Channel separation helps only when the acquisition geometry provides useful separation; speakers mixed into the same channel remain a source-separation problem.
