CPU Profiling
The measurement and attribution of processor execution time to functions, code paths, instructions, or call stacks to identify computational bottlenecks.
Performance Context
CPU profiling attributes processor time to functions, instructions, call stacks, or code paths. Wall-clock profiles can include time spent waiting on I/O or locks, while CPU-time profiling isolates code that is actually consuming processor cycles. Flame graphs and JFR are common ways to inspect hot paths.
Measurement Boundary
A profile is evidence, not an optimization prescription. Sampling bias, inlining, symbol quality, safepoint behavior, and profiler overhead can all affect what is visible.
