Speech Processing Context
VAD hysteresis uses different evidence or thresholds for entering and leaving speech states so short fluctuations do not cause rapid state changes. Combined with hangover, minimum-speech, and silence-confirmation rules, it can stabilize segmentation in streaming ASR.
Modeling Boundary
Hysteresis is a state-transition policy rather than a substitute for the VAD model itself. Excessive hysteresis increases latency, while insufficient hysteresis can fragment speech.
