Raft
A leader-based consensus algorithm that replicates a log through explicit terms, elections, and majority agreement while emphasizing understandability.
Distributed-Systems Context
Raft uses a leader to append client commands to a replicated log and advances commit after entries are safely replicated according to the protocol's majority rules. Terms, voting constraints, and log-matching rules keep stale leaders from overwriting committed history.
Consensus Boundary
Raft is more than leader election. Log consistency, commit rules, persistent state, and state-machine application are all required for a safe replicated state machine.
